In honor of MLK Jr. Day, I wanted to share some quick facts and a video of his daughter speaking on justice today. He left a legacy that we should all follow today. He loved God and all people. He fought for liberty for all like many others did but today we celebrate him.

  1. King graduated high school at the age of 15.
  2. At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize. When notified of his selection, he announced that he would turn over the prize money of $54,123 to the furtherance of the civil rights movement.
  3. He was awarded five honorary degrees.
  4. King traveled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times.
  5. He wrote five books as well as numerous articles.

I encourage you if you haven’t already to read some of his works. The letter from Alabama jail is one of my favorites aside from his “I Have A Dream” speech. Here is the link to see the original letter: https://kinginstitute.stanford.edu/king-papers/documents/letter-birmingham-jail

Below is a video I came across recently of his daughter, Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King posted by YouVersion. She speaks about how we should pursue social justice today and how God’s Word will not return void when we apply it in our lives. I hope you enjoy the video like I did.

A Prayer For You

Lord Jesus, thank You for Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy. Show us how to extend justice to all without neglecting peace and love in the process as he did. Thank You that You are faithful to fulfill Your promises as we place our hope in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Stay hopeful!
