What is the measure of a perfect woman? Is it how successful we appear? I want to be the perfect woman, don’t you? We always hear of how a Proverbs 31 woman is the Olympic standard of being a Christian woman. But what does being a Proverbs 31 woman really mean in our daily lives?

Let’s take a look at 7 ways we can decide for ourselves if we are meeting that standard. I want you to fill in the blank with your name and see if the description fits who you are.

  1. Wisdom is on ________’s tongue
  2.  ________ makes wise financial decisions
  3.  ________ is known for being hospitable
  4.  ________ smiles at the future
  5.  ________ teaches kindness by action
  6.  ________ is clothed in strength and dignity
  7.  ________ is not lazy

God has really been working on me to trust Him more this year. So the hardest one for me to meet right now is smiling at the future. This means that we don’t worry because God is in control and we trust Him. I worry a lot about things when it’s not necessary.

All of us can improve being this type of woman. None of us are perfect but it’s in those imperfect moments that we can give our feelings to God so He can replace it with His truth and reality. When we replace lies with God’s truth, then we can meet the above standards even in difficult moments.

All we need to do is specifically ask God for help in our weak areas and show us how to become the beautiful women we were designed to be. Not to be cliche but true beauty isn’t on the outside, it’s what is on the inside. It’s who we are when no one is looking.

Sure we can look put together and very “good” to others but our motives can be completely out of whack. By that I mean we can do “good” things for bad reasons. Those bad reasons could be wanting attention, popularity, or a number of other selfish things. All the while, God sees our heart. He sees our thoughts and attitudes behind everything we do. So let’s make sure our hearts and motives are pure while we strive to be strong women of faith.

A Prayer For You

Lord Jesus, thank You for this reminder of what true beauty is. Please forgive me for times I have failed to have the qualities of a Proverbs 31 woman. Show me how to become a strong woman of God that You’ve created me to be. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Proverbs 31:10-31 NASB

“An excellent wife, who can find?
For her worth is far above jewels.

 The heart of her husband trusts in her,
And he will have no lack of gain.

 She does him good and not evil
All the days of her life.

 She looks for wool and flax
And works with her hands in delight.

 She is like merchant ships;
She brings her food from afar.

 She rises also while it is still night
And gives food to her household
And portions to her maidens.

 She considers a field and buys it;
From her earnings she plants a vineyard.

 She girds herself with strength
And makes her arms strong.

 She senses that her gain is good;
Her lamp does not go out at night.

 She stretches out her hands to the distaff,
And her hands grasp the spindle.

 She extends her hand to the poor,
And she stretches out her hands to the needy.

 She is not afraid of the snow for her household,
For all her household are clothed with scarlet.

 She makes coverings for herself;
Her clothing is fine linen and purple.

 Her husband is known in the gates,
When he sits among the elders of the land.

 She makes linen garments and sells them,
And supplies belts to the tradesmen.

 Strength and dignity are her clothing,
And she smiles at the future.

 She opens her mouth in wisdom,
And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

 She looks well to the ways of her household,
And does not eat the bread of idleness.

 Her children rise up and bless her;
Her husband also, and he praises her, saying:

 ‘Many daughters have done nobly,
But you excel them all.’
 Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,
But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
 Give her the product of her hands,
And let her works praise her in the gates.”

A Prayer For You

Lord Jesus, thank You for creating me wonderfully and beautifully. Forgive me for the times I have missed the mark on true beauty. Show me how to become the strong woman of God described above in Proverbs 31. In Jesus’ name, amen.
