So I’ve been reading this inspiring book called Seven Women: And The Secret To Their Greatness by Eric Metaxas. It’s one of those books where at the end of each chapter you have to pause and say, ‘wow that really happened; she really did that?’ Yes, it’s one of those that inspires and leaves you in awe of what events transpired!
I find it amazing how God can use regular people to do great things. All 7 women had one thing in common… They trusted the Lord and because of this trust, they were able to boldly carry out plans that helped millions and changed history.
Every woman I’ve met in this book has struck different chords in my heart. Some I have related to more than others but all of them have left a mark on me. A mark of renewed hope and strength by their examples.
The 7 women Eric Metaxas wrote about were some I’ve heard about before that I hadn’t realized were even Christians. Textbooks don’t always tell the full story in high school.
- Joan of Arc
- Susanna Wesley
- Hannah More
- Maria Skobtsova
- Corrie ten Boom
- Rosa Parks
- Mother Teresa
All these women were bold in their own right. They had a strong faith in the Lord that guided them to do great things and affect society for the greater good. This doesn’t mean they didn’t feel fear. On the contrary, they did but they carried out God’s plans anyway. They felt fear but weren’t ruled by it.
So many of us have giftings that we are afraid to share with others or have been called to do something that seems too big for us. It’s time to look fear in the eye and do it anyway!
First, we can be confident in ourselves because Christ is for us and is always with us. Second, we can be confident in taking steps of faith because God won’t call us to do something He hasn’t already equipped us for. And third, God can make a way when it seems there is none.
I can’t tell you how many stories in this book happened where God miraculously came through against all odds. No rationalizing, computing, or sciencing it up. There was no other explanation other than God.
I have been so blessed by reading this and encourage you to pick up a copy if interested! I borrowed an ebook from the library but if you’re one of those that HAS to feel the texture of paper between your fingers, I suggest borrowing a physical copy from your local library or adding to your personal collection of books.
