We all want the secret formula to being more successful without draining our motivation and energy. Am I right? How can we do this though because I’m tired of missing the mark?!
I’ve tried the whole goal setting thing for each New Year and I’ve been about 50% successful. It feels great to mark things off my list but 50% is not the kind of grade I would want on a paper, so why would I be okay with this when it comes to achieving my goals?
Old Method
There’s so much I want to do and I can easily get overwhelmed and distracted. Going back looking through my notebook where I record things I realized I set goals twice for 2018. It’s like I didn’t remember I had made goals already for the year and my ideas shifted some…
Achieving results and being consistent is my aim this year. I don’t want to burn myself out and ask too much but I also want to reach to new heights. As you probably saw in my last post, my word for the upcoming year is FOCUS. To achieve better results I’ve decided to test out a new approach.
New Method
Apparently, my attention span doesn’t last long plus so much can change within even one day. The new approach I’m testing is to set goals for 1 month in advance, regroup after 1 month and see how I did. Part of the process is also being specific and keeping it to 5 bullets at most.
After 1 month from now, I’ll report back to you what my results were. To be transparent, some of my goals are shown below.
- Make healthy dinners at least twice per week (don’t judge me)
- Read 1 book on leadership and/or success
- Buy paint I’m needing so I can paint more
I think it’s important to set long-term and short-term goals. I set some simpler goals so I can move toward reaching my overall objectives. You really have to determine what works best for you.
Success doesn’t happen overnight. Real sustainable change is a process.
-John C. Maxwell
Making excuses and being lazy is not the type of person I want to be. “I can’t” and “it’s impossible” are two words I want to be far removed from my thought process this upcoming year. We need to realize our strengths and weaknesses, this is true.
Grace is a 5 letter word that we must not forget when it comes to this topic. Some circumstances are out of our control and not what God has planned for us. Changing course and eliminating old goals does not mean you failed. You’re moving closer to what you were meant to do.
To make your dreams a reality, you need to stop allowing fear to paralyze you from pressing on and reaching new heights. I’m talking to myself here too! It’s time to start dreaming bigger, accomplishing more, and carrying out God’s best for our lives!
How do you approach goals? Drop a comment below! Oh and if you would like to join me, I’ll be reading “Today Matters” by John C. Maxwell. Stay tuned for more motivational things! đź‘Ť
A Prayer For You
Lord Jesus, help us realize why we are truly here and what we were meant to do. Show us how to accomplish goals no matter how big or small they seem. Help us to stay focused and keep a positive attitude no matter the outcome. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Stay hopeful!
