Let’s face it, Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and you are flying solo. But don’t let it get you down! Now is a good time to get your mind right as you wait for the right one instead of feeling lonely and settling.

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalms 37:4

Are you fed up with guys and believe there are no good guys out there or that they’re taken? Are you tired of dating all the Mr. Wrongs? Well you’re not alone. I’ve been there and so have many other ladies.

If you’re a christian I would say stop dating guys that are not marraige material. I don’t care how hot or rich they are. You need a stong man who will be there for you during life’s ups and downs. You don’t want to be stuck with a husband who won’t treat you right or be a leader of your home. It’s time to be selective if you want better results. Don’t give up hope, God does have a man out there for you. Don’t settle for less than God’s best for you!

Here are 5 qualities I believe are essential in a godly man. Now you shouldn’t expect to snag a guy with these qualities but not possess them yourself. So go to God in prayer and ask Him to show you how to be a better woman.

  1. Heart for God and heart for others – This is the most important quality to look for in a man. He doesn’t just “go to church”. A godly man is fully surrendered and devoted to God and you can see it outside of him sitting through a church service. His love for God will develop into a love for others as well. He will speak and seem concerned when others are in need. He will have a heart to serve and help others. He will want to lead his home in serving God.
  2. Sincere and humble – A man who thinks he is better than everyone else or never makes mistakes is not a man you want. No one is perfect but we know from the Word that one of the qualities of a godly man is humility (See Proverbs 18:12). A man who can apologize and be willing to listen to you is the kind of man you want.
  3. Your biggest encourager – A godly man will strive to treat you with respect and cherish you. He will love you more than himself. He won’t put his desires above yours. He will love you as Christ loved the church (Ephesians 5:25). This means a man should look out for your best interest in love. He will show grace and forgiveness as Jesus did when He laid down His life for us when we were at our worst.
  4. Strong character – You want a man who will step up in the hard times and be your rock. A godly man will be resolute in his faith and trust in God in every circumstance. He won’t give in when others around him are doing the wrong things. This can be greatly strengthened through time and trials.
  5. Treats everyone with respect – A godly man is respectful towards women. He is polite and helpful when others are in need. He is kind and patient with everyone regardless. A godly man will still stand up for himself and others but in a respectful manner.

Everyone has room for improvement because we are not perfect. The difference is that a godly man will be understanding and able to recognize his flaws and strive to work on them. He will also listen and value you for who you are. At the same time, be aware of red flags that aren’t addressed.

Don’t settle for less than God’s best for you.

When I had a boyfriend or was dating someone I prayed that God would end the relationship and show me it isn’t right if it wasn’t. I prayed that I would see his true colors. Let me tell you, God answered those prayers. I may have not liked the answer but in time He always revealed the truth to me. Those guys were not the right one for me. God had “the one” hand picked for me but it took tears and patience.

My husband is a better man than I could have hoped for. I knew without a doubt that it was God’s will for us to be married. I did not have pleasant experiences with guys before meeting him. They would call themselves Christians but with time I saw this their actions didn’t line up with their words. I didn’t know if any good guys were left in this world until I met Garrett. He was worth waiting for!

Please don’t push for something that is not God’s will. If you do, only trouble will come. Instead, my advice would be to pray and ask God to reveal His will for your life. The Holy Spirit will reveal this to you through giving you reassuring peace or what I call a “gut feeling”.

In the meantime, take heart and don’t be discouraged. God has a plan for your life and hope for your future (Jeremiah 29:11). Cast your cares on God because He cares for you and has your best interest at heart. Use the time you have before marriage to grow in a closer relationship with your Heavenly Father.

A Prayer For You

Lord we thank You for having our best interest at heart. Please reveal Your will for our lives. Please help my friends make wise decisions as they wait for their future spouse. Let this be a time of waiting where they grow closer in relationship with You. We know You will bring them the right spouse in the right timing according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, amen!
