Last night, my husband and I watched the movie “A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood” with Tom Hanks on our date night. Fred Rogers reminded me a lot about how Jesus would’ve been when He was here on earth. Fred would take extra time with people and let them know how unique and important they were.

Too many times I’ve noticed others and caught myself not even making eye contact with other people in drive throughs or grocery checkouts. We’ve lost that personal touch and society has suffered because of it.

It’s so imperative in a tech-driven and rushed world, that we don’t lose sight of building others up. We need to at least stop and acknowledge people.

“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11

Jesus knew His time on earth was short and his mission was critical. Yet He would stop what He was doing when people interrupted and needed something. He didn’t get angry or annoyed with these interruptions. On the contrary, He gave them His full attention and spoke life into their lives.

People were His mission and they were His priority. After all, He died for all people in order to give them an opportunity to come to know freedom and true life. We need to strive to follow His example in our daily comings and goings.

I highly recommend the movie about Mr. Rogers. It causes you to reflect on yourself and how to deal with human emotions during difficult times. I’m not gonna lie, I was sobbing watching it. So grab a pack of tissues and get ready to feel some things. You can find the official trailer here: https://youtu.be/-VLEPhfEN2M

Reflection

How many times have we walked around only worried about ourselves and missed opportunities to build up others around us? Let’s start making an effort to reach out to others and make the world a better place, with one interaction at a time. Let’s leave people better than we found them.

“Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.”

Ephesians 4:29
