I hope you all found the last post 4 Ways To Get Rid of Toxic Thoughts beneficial to you! I’m super stoked to follow up with a few thoughts and questions for you.
As I mentioned before, our actions don’t just pop up out of thin air. They sprout up from our hidden thoughts. How can we guard our thoughts and be intentional?
To guard our thoughts, we have to intentionally put up filters instead of taking it all in. No, I’m not saying to walk around with blinders on and become a recluse. I’m simply pointing out how the things we take in on a daily basis influence us.
Now, I want us to dig deeper and be very intentional in the upcoming days. Let’s be mindful of what we are watching, hearing, and seeing. What I mean by that is test these things and see if they are acceptable to God. I believe we might be thrown back and even a little shocked by what we are absorbing around us when we take time to reflect.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.”
Psalm 19:14 NASB
David wrote Psalm 19:14. He was well qualified to share that wisdom from his experience. He knew what it was like to live in bondage of his thoughts. He was an adulterer, murderer, and tried to cover it all up. He tried to justify and hide it. We all know what happened, God used a friend of his to confront him. David broke down realizing his wretchedness and begged for God’s forgiveness.
His compulsive actions that led to sin came from his lustful thoughts. Those thoughts are what inevitably drove him to commit the sins. It went from bad to worse in a whirlwind when he tried to cover it up. He ended up losing the baby conceived from adultery. He also had ongoing wars within his house and with others until he died.
We need to learn from David’s mistakes so we can avoid bondage and consequences. Yes God forgives us but that doesn’t mean that we don’t suffer consequences. So thinking you can sin now and say sorry later won’t cut it. I don’t know about you but I want God’s blessings and favor in my life.
Reflection
Life is hard enough as it is so why complicate it more than we have to? It’s time to take note of what would we do if Jesus were in the room with us. In all reality, He is omnipresent and is with us anyway. He knows our thoughts so we aren’t getting away with anything that we are doing in “secret”.
“For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.”
Luke 8:17 NLV
Numbness to sin is a real thing and if we aren’t careful, we can justify ourselves into bondage. The Lord wants to release you from that bondage right now. It’s time to get honest with yourself and God.
Are you really saying and doing what is pleasing to Him? If not, refer back to the last post on 4 Ways To Get Rid of Toxic Thoughts. We can’t produce bad fruit as a Christ follower unless we’re letting pollution in our hearts and minds.
A Prayer For You
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your grace and mercies. Show us how to become the men and women that You’ve created us to be. Let the words of our mouth and the meditation of our heart be acceptable in Your sight. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Stay hopeful!
