On this past Sunday night, my husband and I went grocery shopping. After we got married, we quickly got started in a Financial Peace Class by Dave Ramsey. Carrying cash on hand using envelopes is something we began doing as a result. We brought our budget envelope book with us to Wal-Mart and got what we needed. We left feeling good because I saved us around $10 using coupons. Little did we know what I would do later…
After shopping, we came home and I popped a pizza in the oven. Then, we started watching a movie called “Facing the Giants”. I had never seen this movie but my husband said it was really good and we should watch it. If you haven’t seen this movie I encourage you to see it. It was really touching and inspirational. Watch the trailer above to see what it’s about.
Towards the end of the movie, the high school football coach went around the room with his players asking “is anything impossible with God?” They all answered “no coach”. This part was so moving after everything they had been through and accomplished. The coach never gave up on having faith in God and living it out despite his miserable circumstances. I began to realize just how important this concept was later that evening.
Well after the movie Garrett asked me where the budget envelope book was. I calmly said, “in my purse babe.” He looked in my purse and said: “it isn’t in here…” Blood quickly rushed away from my face as I realized the budget book with wads of cash in it was missing. There were only two places it could be at this point I thought. I quickly ran to my car and checked everywhere three times over.
I ran back inside with my head down and explained to Garrett that we needed to go back to Wal-Mart and look for it – right now. We sped off in the car and Garrett asked me to pray on our way there. Being inspired by the movie I prayed this little prayer. “Lord I know it’s completely unlikely that the little blue book was turned in, but nothing is impossible with You. It will take a miracle but I pray that someone found it in the cart and turned it in with all of the cash still inside. We pray that we will find the book… and that it will have no cash missing… or at least have most of the cash left. Either way, we will praise You even if we don’t find it. We know nothing is impossible for You if it’s Your will.” Garrett and I both believed it would be a miracle to find it or for someone to turn it in after 3 hours with all that cash.
Mark 10:27 – Looking at them, Jesus said, “With people it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”
We pulled into the parking lot and started scanning shopping carts that were around where I may have left it. I just knew I left it in the cart after we unloaded everything into the car. There was an employee collecting carts and I went up to him and asked if he had seen a blue book that has Financial Peace on it. He said he hadn’t but if someone did the right thing it would be inside at Customer Service. Yes, we knew it was highly unlikely at this point and agreed with him.
Garrett and I panic walked inside Wal-Mart to Customer Service. While in line, we saw it and looked at each other and whispered thank God as we hugged! We finally were asked if we needed help with something (it felt like forever but it was probably 2 minutes). After we described it to her, she knew exactly what we were talking about and brought it right to us. We thanked her and quickly walked to the car smiling to see if all the cash was there. Garrett counted it up and nothing was missing! We started praying and thanking God and asking God to bless whoever found it and the employees inside who didn’t take any money. Garrett prayed if they were going through hard times that all their needs would be met.
I learned from these two valuable lessons: Pay attention to my belongings and God is in control. I truly believe God was teaching us a valuable lesson about having faith in Him. He was showing that nothing is impossible and to place our trust in Him.
This may seem silly but it was a major miracle for us! It is so true that nothing is impossible with God. If we pray in accordance to His will and not our own, giving Him praise no matter what, great things can happen. This applies to every situation in life. We need to recognize how powerful God is and that nothing is impossible. He created the Universe and everything in it. From dust, He formed man and breathed life into him (Genesis 1 & 2).
On the flipside, I have prayed for several things in my life that never came to be including physical healing for my dad who died of cancer in May 2014. Sometimes He doesn’t answer the way we want or the answer is no. I’ll address this next week in my post, “Unanswered Prayers”. There is a reason for everything and Romans 8:28 explains that …” all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose”.
Prayer For You
Lord forgive us for not placing all our trust in You. Help us to always remember You are in control and nothing is impossible for You. We will strive to actively place our trust in You no matter what we face. We will praise you in good times and in hard times. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
