I have a confession… I love to read books! And not just one at a time, for some reason I read several. It must be the multi-tasking feminine of me that comes out. Anyway, one of the delightful books I have been reading is called Fervent by Priscilla Shirer. If you haven’t seen the movie War Room, I encourage you to rent or buy it (scroll to the bottom for link). The lead actress from War Room wrote this book and my sweet mother-in-law let me borrow it. I’ve learned a lot and would love to share my thoughts with you!
Priscilla puts a spin on what prayer involves from start to finish using this acronym- PRAY. The P stands for praise, R stands for repentance, A stands for ask, and Y stands for Yes. She urges you to start out thanking and praising God first. Next you ask for forgiveness in any areas you know you are failing and need help. Ask means you simply ask God for what you need. Yes meaning to thank God for answering this request and backing it up with promises from scripture that pertain to it.
She explains that the we do have an enemy, satan, and he is out to destroy in 10 specific areas. But now it’s time to take the fight back to him by getting on our knees in prayer. So she came up with 10 strategies beginning with what she thought was most important. She encourages you to use the PRAY method with each specific strategy as it applies to your life. These are 10 prayer strategies Priscilla hits on:
- Your Passion
- Your Focus
- Your Identity
- Your Family
- Your Past
- Your Fears
- Your Purity
- Your Pressures
- Your Hurt
- Your Relationships
I have to ask before we begin, what is your prayer strategy?
Before I jump right in and start discussing this with you, I want to give you a chance to start reading this book with me if you want. I will say it’s a very easy read. Priscilla explains everything plainly and has humor along with it that made me laugh throughout. Click on the book below to see where you can find it. I’m sure it’s also in christian book stores as well.
A Prayer For You
Lord please give us receptive hearts and minds as we begin to study this book. Show us what You want us to see. Help us to realize that we not only have an enemy, but how to recognize when the enemy tries sneak into our lives and mess things up. Thank You for stirring up hearts for You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Stay hopeful!
