Life sometimes throws us into a state of surprise and chaos. Things rarely go according to plan. I know that so many of you right now are going through some difficult things. The Lord has put on my heart to speak directly to your circumstance and to whatever you are facing. My hope is that this will bring comfort and peace to your doorstep right now.
It was a dark and eerie evening. Jesus could feel that the time was coming soon. He knew what had to be done. He knew His destiny. He frequently prayed but this time the prayer was more intense. He was in such agony that He sweat blood and cried out to His Father.
What did He pray at the eleventh hour? He asked if there was any way He could escape sudden death. Yes, even Jesus who was perfect wanted to skip over the hard stuff if possible. But the prayer didn’t end there… He finished by saying “yet not My will but Your will be done.” Then an angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him. (Luke 22:42-43)
The cool thing here I’ve never noticed is that an angel literally appeared to Him and strengthened Him. How crazy is that? I need lots of angels to strengthen me please! No but seriously, God heard His prayer and saw His distress. God wasn’t upset with Him for His emotion and maybe even fear. The key takeaway here is that we pray for the Lord’s will to be done above our own.
As Christ followers, when we are faced with trials this is what we should do also. We have the comforter-the Holy Spirit- to bring us comfort, peace, strength, and guidance. I don’t know if you’ve ever cried out to God in desperation before but I have. Even just calling out His name, ‘Jesus’ when you don’t know what to say will bring instant comfort.
I’ve been so worn down and weak that the only strength I had to say anything was by saying His name. He met me right there, in the dark, in the midst of my weakness, fear, and heartache. He can do that for you too if you will let Him. I’ve heard some say they’ve prayed to themselves instead of out loud and God met them right then and there with peace.
Below are 3 ways to find comfort for the distressed soul:
1. You aren’t alone.
First off I want to let you know that you ARE NOT alone. You may feel that way or you may literally not have anyone who knows what you are going through. This community is here for you to help in any way we can and join you in prayer if you let us.
More importantly, God says He will never leave us or forsake us. We may feel like He has but believe it or not, He listens to our prayers and knows everything you face. He knows your frustrations, inner struggles that no one else sees, and every tear you cry. We don’t realize it but He fights on our behalf most times behind the scenes.
2. Find comfort by reading the Bible
All throughout the Bible, there are life-giving words that bring comfort in the midst of sorrow and distress. I can’t tell you how many times Psalm 23 has given me peace just from reading it. Seven other verses for you to check out are listed below. If you’re like me, you may save a verse as your screensaver or write a note and tape it on your mirror to serve as a continual reminder.
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
“The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to tread on the heights.” Habakkuk 3:19
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” Romans 8:37
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:34
3. Pray and ask God for what you need
This may seem like a given but many of us forget to take the time to ask God for what we need. In any relationship, you can’t expect the other person to know what you need. In this case, God does know what you need but as a loving Father, He wants His children to tell Him their fears and desires. Two-way communication is essential in our relationship with Him.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

Lord Jesus, I need Your help. I can’t do this on my own. Please give me the strength to make it through. I need Your peace and comfort to wash over me right now. Thank You for meeting me in my moment of need. I pray that not my will be done, but Your will be done in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Stay hopeful!
