The moment has FINALLY arrived that I’ve been waiting for! I saved up for a year to get an electric drum set and last night we put it together. Check out the picture below! You might not be able to tell but I was absolutely miserable!

My allergies were going full blast right crazy status. My husband and I planned on setting up my new drum set last night since we bought it on Sunday. Then my allergies hit hard. I powered through tissue in hand while I sneezed constantly. I didn’t let that get in the way of my happiness of building and trying out the new drums.

Why am I sharing this semi-sob story with you? Well, I want you to feel sorry for me of course! No, but really, in life things can disrupt our plans. If you’re like me you can let disappointment slip in almost instantly and start blaming it on the wrong things.

We talked about how the enemy is real in the last 2 posts How To Fight Back When The Enemy Attacks & Walking In God’s Authority. I’m not taking back what I said but rather clarifying something. Sometimes I believe we give the enemy too much credit. I don’t blame satan for my crazy allergies last night. I get them every year around this time…

My point in saying this is that yes we do have an enemy but not everything is his fault. Sometimes life just happens. This might bring up questions in your mind if you’re like me.

How do we know when it’s the enemy’s fault? Honestly, it doesn’t necessarily matter if we know it’s satan or not. What matters is our perspective and frame of mind for any given situation. We can experience setbacks and lose sight of the big picture if we aren’t careful.

So what is the big picture I’m talking about? Living out your God-given purpose to use your talents and to share hope with others while doing it. For example, with my drum set situation, I could have easily gotten upset and somewhat depressed because I wasn’t able to enjoy it how I wanted to last night. Although I was completely annoyed I tried to make the best of the situation instead of pouting about it.

In church last Sunday, I heard a message that posed this powerful question: Do you have a victim or a victor mentality? I believe this applies to every moment we face in life. We can say poor me and everyone is out there to get me OR we can say I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

Even when we don’t feel like living out our faith and keeping a positive attitude, we still can. It’s simply a choice. All hell might be breaking loose around you but God is still in control.

Maybe you’re facing a very difficult situation that is very serious. Or maybe you’re facing minor annoyances like I did last night. Either way, we have a choice on how we respond.

Spiritual warfare I believe can be self-inflicted because I’ve done it to myself before. I’ve been my worst enemy at times for sure. Can you relate?

We’ve got to have a stronger will. When your thoughts start going negative does that mean that you’re wrong? No, you’re normal but it’s how you respond that matters most. Stop dwelling on the negatives and realize that this too shall pass. God DOES have good things in store for you so don’t think your life is over when a big or small derail happens to your plans.

We can’t control what other people do or what life throws at us. All we can control is how we respond. We can act better than we feel. Don’t let the enemy or anything else steal your joy or peace. We can remember that God’s plans are still at work and good.

Reflection

What has happened in your life that has left you feeling annoyed, devastated, or even hopeless? Do you think this situation is bigger than God? Has it taken God by surprise? Does He still have good plans for your life?

A Prayer For You

Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me this reminder that You still have good plans for my life. Plans to bring me hope and a future. You aren’t taken by surprise when something bad happens and You don’t leave me alone either. Not now and not ever. Show me how to live in a peaceful and strong frame of mind keeping Your will as my focus. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Stay hopeful!
