This time of year gets crazy. Your to do list seems endless and time seems to slipping out of your hands. You have so much to do and don’t even know where to begin. I’ve been there too.

Take a moment to calm your heart and rest your soul.

May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. Psalm 119:76

I had my eyes opened last night while volunteering for an event. This event gives parents the opportunity to pick out several free gifts for their children that they couldn’t afford otherwise. I helped single moms with a lot on their plate, I helped couples with several kids to get gifts for, and there were grandparents there raising their grandchildren.

What stood out the most was when a dad there was about to leave and thanked us for the coffee we provided free as a refreshment. He said he usually drinks several cups per day but hasn’t had any in awhile. We asked why and his wife said, almost under her breath, that they can’t afford it anymore. They were embarrassed to answer and we were all taken aback by the response.

Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed. Psalm 82:3

I’m saying that to say remember to be kind and gracious this holiday season. You never know what someone is going through. Don’t get stuck in your own little world like so many do. There are opportunities around you to share a kind word to others who are hurting. Look for ways to encourage others around you. It could be simply a smile that can turn someone’s day around.

A Prayer for You

Lord, thank You for reminding us to calm our hearts and souls. Help us to be a blessing to others this season and not get caught up in holiday anxiety. Bring us peace and joy and help us share that with others. Give us opportunities to help others in need this season. In Jesus’ name, amen.
