Let’s face it, we all have to work or at least most of us do. Most of us spend 40 plus hours of our lives away from our homes to make a buck. So what do you do when you’re unhappy with your job?

It sucks going to a job that you hate. If you aren’t in this situation, we’re glad for you, really. You still might get something out of this post so stay with us.

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.

Colossians 3:23‭-‬24

Ouch, so this verse above is a bittersweet reminder. As Christians, we need to work as we are working for the Lord. But what do you do when you don’t like your jobs? It could be because of your boss, the nature of the work, your coworkers, or a combination of reasons.

I think the answer lies in our attitude toward the situation. We can either make the most of the situation and stay positive or we can hate every minute (which only make things worse).

If you lean towards hating every minute of work, I don’t blame you. Let’s take a look at how to change our attitude and perspective. First, we must realize that we’ve been blessed to have the job we have. Secondly, we need to realize that we aren’t working for our boss only, we’re working for the Lord.

God positions us in places with certain people for a reason. We may be completely oblivious to it but I believe it’s true. Out of all the places you could work and out of all the people that you could work with, you’re where you are. You might be thinking, yes that’s the problem and I hate my job! Well, maybe you need to shift your perspective.

You may work in a very negative environment or just not like who you work with or for. We’ve all been there and had work drama before. To help put things into perspective, it helps to know that people aren’t hard to get along with for no reason.

Joyce Meyer once said, “Hurt people, hurt people.” Everyone has a story and a reason for why they act and react the way they do. Right or wrong as they may be, now we have the opportunity to have an influence in their lives (yay us).

3 Questions To Move You Towards Enjoying Work Again

  1. What kind of influence do you have on others around you; is it positive or negative?
  2. Do people at work believe that you leave a situation better than you found it?
  3. Are leaving a legacy at work that shows what kind of person you want to be?

In your current situation, no matter how bad it may be, you need to remember that God placed you there for a reason. God will bring other opportunities for you at the right time but for now, you’re where you are.

Remember that we’re called to love God and love people, all people. Try to see past any negativity and see what God can work out for your good. He can use you right where you are if you’re willing.

You know how big diesel trucks leave a trail of smoke behind them? Let’s quit adding to that type of pollution in the workplace. Instead, let’s leave a legacy of hope and love everywhere we go!

Stay hopeful!
