You might be thinking, I’d be happy if I had extra money or if my family member would quit acting crazy! Well, why wait to be happy when you can be happy right now?!

How can we get to a place where we are happy with our life? No matter what the circumstance, having a thankful heart is the medicine you need to enjoy your life. There might be all hell breaking loose in your life right now but choosing to be thankful is still the answer.

Garrett and I have several things going on in our life that I mentioned in my last post (What To Do In The Unknown Season of Life) that I can grumble about. And trust me I have! But, I have decided to thank God for all He has done, all that He is doing, and all that He will do in the future.

Things have gotten so rough lately that I have begun thanking God for every little thing I can come up with. Things like, “thanks for the green light”, “thanks for this close parking spot”. Having a thankful heart has helped me and it can help you too.

I came across this verse recently that really irritated me. It says, “do everything without complaining and arguing” (Philippians 2:14). Many of you might be thinking… do you know how bad my situation is right now? How can I not complain?! I hear you.

Stop Feeling Miserable!

You see God knows that if we complain or argue with people, it will steal our peace and ultimately our joy. Obviously, bottling up frustrations is not healthy either but we shouldn’t live in a constant state of negativity. A lot of us give situations or other people the power to steal our joy so easily when we get upset.

We will be miserable if we are ruled by our emotions. Having feelings is not wrong obviously but feeling sorry for yourself isn’t the answer. God wants us to enjoy life every day. When you feel yourself getting into a mopey mood like I have been lately, thank and praise God all the more! It really works!

This doesn’t mean it’s wrong to feel sad or complain to someone you trust. There are circumstances in life that lead to sadness and grief. But if you spend all your time focused on your problem and complaining, that won’t do your health or your situation any good.

If we wait for everything to be rainbows and sunshine all the time before we feel happy, it might never happen! Bad things happen to us and around us but we don’t have to be controlled by our circumstances. I want to enjoy life and I want you to enjoy life too! So let’s strive to be thankful every day no matter what.

“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

1 Thessalonians 5:18

“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice all you learned and received from me—everything you heard from me and saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.”

Philippians 4:8-9

A Prayer For You

Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I’ve had a bad attitude and show me how to have a thankful heart. Show me how to start enjoying life today. Help me to be more mindful of having positive thoughts instead of thinking about whatever negative thing pops into my mind. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Stay hopeful!
