Survival food in bulk, survival gear, and generators are selling like wildfire. With the inflation of things, supply chain issues, food shortages, and the spotlight being on Covid-19 variants around the world, how can one prepare to keep their families safe? What is the one thing preppers shouldn’t miss?

We can’t control what happens but we can plan the best we can for the “what ifs”. The “what ifs” can get very scary and some may choose to bury their heads in the sand. I don’t want to be that person because I have a family to provide for and protect now. Some poke fun of preppers but when the power goes out or disaster strikes, who is laughing then?

“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?'”

Luke 12:20

The #1 prep that too many miss is this: prep for one’s soul… God isn’t just a crutch that people use to explain things they don’t understand. We are human beings with not just a mind and body, but also a soul. Life isn’t over after you breathe your last breath. If you want proof, check this out… Why I Believe In The Bible.

It’s easy to get scared and caught up in the emotions of this or that right now. I myself was doing the same thing. My mind was racing thinking ‘what should we do, we have a baby to care for now’. Out of nowhere, the above verse came to mind.

I believe the Lord was saying, slow your roll Heather and trust Me. It’s like He was saying, you can prepare all you want physically and financially but you’ve lost sight of trusting Me with your heart and soul. It was true, I was becoming fearful.

“Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God.”

Luke 12:21

I challenge all of you to read all of Luke chapter 12 and really begin digging in your bibles to find truth, wisdom, and peace. Jesus warned us several times around 2,000 years ago that the kingdom of heaven was near. We’re obviously closer since those days to the end times (mentioned in Revelation and throughout the Bible).

This isn’t to scare you but to cause you to go to the Lord for everything first before anything else. Before preparing. Before freaking out and panicking. Before making rash decisions out of fear. It is smart to be wise but foolish to forget the #1 prep is for our soul. As believers, the thing we do first in any circumstance is to go to the Lord, in prayer and scripture.

After going to the Lord, we can prepare wisely and rationally for any unforeseeable circumstances the best we can. But we must remember that no matter what may come, the Lord is not taken by surprise and He will provide for us all along the way. We simply must put our trust in Him first and foremost, always having a thankful heart.

Several people -including preppers- my husband and I keep coming across are saying how they feel like something big is coming. Supply chain issues, Covid-19 variants spreading, inflation of goods, and food shortages are very real things happening worldwide. There have been several earthquakes recently and rumors of war worldwide. These things are nothing new but we never know when Christ will return. Only the Lord knows when He will return (Matthew 24:36).

I will say, I came across another verse in my readings in Proverbs 6:6-8 speaking about how we should take a lesson in observing the ants. How they labor hard all summer to prepare for the winter. We could be facing food shortages for a variety of reasons or we may not. Only the Lord knows but for our family, we are going to buy a can or two extra of food until winter comes just in case. Not out of fear but simply to have extra things that we will eat anyway.

“But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith! And do not seek what you will eat and what you will drink, and do not keep worrying. For all these things the nations of the world eagerly seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you.

Luke 12:28-31

A Prayer for You

Lord, thank You for this reminder to get my focus back on You. You are my provider, protector, and prince of peace. You are the one who gives me wisdom in the midst of certainty. Please give me wisdom and discernment in all decisions and get rooted back in Your Word. Instead of fearing the unknown, I choose to place my trust and hope in You alone. Help me to continue to be a light to others in all that I do. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Stay hopeful!

If you’ve never accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you can do this now here.

Do not fear, The Lord Himself will fight for you.
